Apartment Review
I do not recommend renting from Sunnyside Property

Sunnyside Property Management is a very poorly run and implemented management company. I will credit the company with a few things: when our plumbing in the shower was not working, they addressed and fixed the plumbing within a few days. However, the same plumbing problem occurred at least three times over three years, which to me means that the problem was never properly addressed and, instead, was only temporarily fixed. Additionally, when we had an outstanding balance of nearly $600 from utility charges incurred from our previous year with them - charges which I should say Sunnyside did not inform us had been accumulating that year until just before we resigned for the next year, and this happened 2 years in a row - they at least let us pay in installments throughout the following year as we continued to rent with them. Having given them credit where credit is due, there are many ways in which we have been dissatisfied and appalled by this company. We have been a respectful adult working and graduate student couple, and only in our third and last year of working with Sunnyside did the company work with us appropriately respectfully. In terms of the state in which we left our apartment, we left it appropriately clean and by their standards. We replaced all broken blinds, yet were charged for two separate trips to Home Depot and the purchase of a blind which was not broken when we vacated the apartment, totaling around $75. These is just one example of many in which they determined we were responsible for over $600 worth of improvements and repairs to the apartment, of which I believe we were only reasonably responsible for no more than $300. We specifically asked if we could do an exit walk-through of our apartment when they reviewed our apartment, and they firmly refused to do so citing that they have too many apartments to turn over in a 3 week period to walk-through each with the leaving tenants. In retrospect, their overly lengthy contract really is a disgrace to any respectful, mature tenant. I can understand how they may want to protect themselves from irresponsible renters, but it is an insulting contract to mature adults. I imagine that it will be difficult for us to successfully appeal the charges taken from our security deposit as the contract includes the following: "CONDITION and CARE: Tenants will be 100% responsible for all repairs due to negligence or willful acts by Tenants ... . ... Tenant is required to report any needed maintenance on the property. Any expense to repair damage resulting from Tenant's failure to report said needed maintenance shall be paid by Tenant. ..." I fully regret renting form this company. I do not recommend renting from this company. We will be reporting this agency to the better business bureau. Although I have rated the apartment itself well, my "overall rating" is meant to reflect my view of the management company.
